2025 BFMS Cross Country

First practice will be on August 14th from 3:30pm-5:30pm in front of west hall at BFMS.  Runners will need a comfortable pair of running shoes and a bottle of water.   Also note that we are looking for athletes to be committed to the season and attend all practices and meets. We will not hold practices on Friday's and there is one Saturday morning meet scheduled for September 6th.  The season goes quick and usually wraps up around the first week of October.  The last day to come out and join the team will be August 25th.

If you're interested in running cross country, now’s a great time to start preparing. Begin by running 2–3 times a week, gradually building up to running at a sustainable pace for 5, 10, 15, and eventually 20 minutes without stopping. Focus on consistency over speed, wear proper running shoes, stay hydrated, and mix in some light strength and flexibility exercises. Come ready to work hard, support your teammates, and have fun when official practice starts on August 14th!

Questions? Email Coach Duncan at [email protected] or call Mrs. Slough at 540-493-6542.

2025 BFMS Golf

The first practice for the BFMS Golf team will be Monday August 25 at Willow Creek Golf Club at 3:30. There will also be a parent meeting after practice from 5:45 to 6:15 at the golf course.  A bus will provide transportation to Willow Creek, but parents will need to provide transportation home no later than 5:45. We will practice every Monday 3:30-5:45, Tuesday 3:30-5:00 and Wednesday 3:30-5:45 at Willow Creek. There could be practice on Thursday due to weather and course availability.  Golfers will not be able to ride activity buses after practice.

Students need to have a current physical on file. Starting July 1, 2025 all new physicals must be on the new physical form. Any physicals dated before July 1 are acceptable if they are on the old form. All physicals now expire 14 months after the date of the physical. This is new to all of us so if you have a question, please call Jessica Slough at 540-493-6542.

Students need to wear a shirt with a collar, nice shorts (no blue jeans or cut off shirts) and bring your clubs.  If you need to borrow equipment, please let me know before by calling 540- 420-8372 or email [email protected].

Listed below is a website of information and an application for the Roanoke Valley Junior Golf Association.  For a reasonable fee you can join and play area tournaments.  This will give you valuable experience in tournament play and also get to play some of the nicer area courses for less money.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Students in grades 7 & 8 who wish to participate in interscholastic athletics are encouraged to do so. Sixth graders can only act as managers if selected by the coach. Managers are only allowed to do managerial duties and cannot practice or workout with the team. BFMS athletic programs include cheerleading, football, volleyball, cross country, golf, wrestling, basketball, softball, track, baseball, tennis, and soccer. These teams compete in the Roanoke Valley Middle School League. Students must pass three out of four classes for 8th graders, and four of the five for 7th graders each semester in order to compete in a sport the following semester. A Virginia High School physical is required before students may participate in any interscholastic event. Physical forms can be picked up at BFMS or TGC or printed online http://www.vhsl.org/. There is also a link at the top of this webpage. SCHOOL HEALTH ENTRANCE EXAMS will not be accepted. In addition to the physical form, every athlete must sign a participation form as well as a concussion policy form.

Activity buses are available for students who participate in after-school activities. Buses pick up at the West Hall at 6:00 p.m. and transport students to Franklin County High School, where they will board buses that transport them to the bus stop nearest their homes. Students who ride the activity buses are required to obtain an activity bus pass from the person who is responsible for the activity.

You can call the bus garage at 483-5541 to find out which bus to ride and where the bus will stop, or click the link located at the top of this webpage.  PLEASE NOTE:  THE ACTIVITY BUS DOES NOT NECESSARILY STOP AT THE SAME PLACE AS THE REGULAR BUS.
Students must have an activity bus pass, secured from the sponsor or coach in order to ride the activity bus. NO EXCEPTIONS!

The same acceptable bus conduct that is expected on any bus ride is also expected on activity buses. Activity bus transportation is a privilege that can be withdrawn for inappropriate behavior.

For more information, please contact our Athletic Coordinator, Jessica Slough, at [email protected]
or at 540-493-6542.
