Benjamin Franklin Middle School will offer the following sports in the fall
​ of 2017​
. The start dates are listed below. Anyone who would like to participate must have a VHSL physical on file that is dated after May 1, 2017. Both the parent and athlete must attend a mandatory fall sports meeting BEFORE the sport begins. Those meetings will be held at the high school auditorium on July 18 at 6:00 PM or July 20 at 3:30 PM. FOOTBALL - Practice begins Thursday, July 27 from 12:30-5:30. Please be at the middle school by 11:30. Activity buses will be available. Equipment handout nights will be Monday, July 24 and Wednesday, July 26 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM next to the east hall locker rooms. Please enter the back door next to the cafeteria. There will be a $30.00 practice pack fee due at that time. Cut off date for football is Friday, August 11. Contact person: Coach Renick at or 540-798-9221.

VOLLEYBALL - Tryouts will begin Friday, August 11 from 3:30-6:00 PM in the west hall gym. They will continue Saturday, August 12 from 9:00-11:30 AM and then again from 1:00-3:30 PM. Players will need to leave the gym area in between sessions. Contact person: Coach Flora at

CROSS COUNTRY - Practice will begin Monday, August 14 from 3:30-5:45 PM. Contact person: Coach Anderson at

GOLF - Practice will begin Wednesday, August 16 at Willow Creek Golf Club from 3:30-5:45 PM. Contact person: Coach Forbes at

TENNIS - First practice date will be determined after school begins. Contact person: Coach Lovelace at

CHEERLEADING - The cheer team has already been selected. Tryouts for next year will be sometime in May of 2018.

Sports Physicals

Sports Physicals for the 2017-2018 school year will be provided at ION 2331 Franklin Road, Roanoke (the old Ukrops building) on Saturday, May 20 at 10:45 AM. Transportation will be provided. If you want your middle school student to utilize our transportation, please call 483-5332 and leave a message. The cost of the physicals will be $15 and pages 1, 2 and 4 will need to already be filled out on the VHSL physical form before you go. The deadline for registering for transportation is April 20, 2017. You can go to ION with your child yourself and you would need to be there by 10:45 AM if you do not want to utilize our transportation. Please call Jessica Slough at 493-0542 if you have questions. This will take the place of what we have done with physicals in the past. 

BFMS/TGC Fundraiser Items

The BFMS/Gereau Center Fundraiser orders (including the frozen COOKIE DOUGH) will be ready for pick-up between 3 PM to 5:45 PM on Wednesday, March 15th in West Hall Cafeteria. Please remember to pick up cookie dough and any large orders on March 15th. The small orders will be sent home with students. Thank you. Please contact if you have any questions. 

Scholastic Book Fairs - Both East & West Halls and online!

Both East and West Halls are having their Spring Book Fairs 2/27/17 - 3/3/17. The theme is "Wilderness - Get Lost in a Good Book". To celebrate we are asking staff and students to wear Camo on Wednesday 3/1 and both book fairs will be open in the library media centers until 5:00PM on 3/1/17 for parents, grandparents and others to come out and shop! Box Tops for Education and Fundraiser Info

Thank you parents and faculty for your Box Tops for Education and your fundraiser orders! We have extended the deadline to turn in the fundraiser orders until Tuesday 2/21 for those who need a few more days. The Box Tops for Education deadline to sin prizes is still Feb. 28th. Soup for Seniors

The NJHS will be sponsoring a Soup for Seniors community service project. Students who wish to participate will be asked to bring canned soup and crackers beginning this week. The collections will be given to seniors in our community. The last day for collections will be February 7th. The class with the most donations will win a pizza party. Thanks in advance!
